Shiranui is an abstract pattern inspired by mystic flames in the motif of different patterns (animals, plants, and natural phenomena) found in the natural world. The design uses a giraffe, whirlpool, moire (wave), two leaves, and an embossed moire (wave). With five printed pattern layers plus an embossed pattern layer, we use six colors including the color (red) of the raw film. We tried to create a design that combines different-pattern layers into one pattern—one of the most difficult designs.
We use an embossed layer that combines a feeling of transparency and a pattern to enhance the richness. The design was inspired by the color and feeling of transparency of plaster.
* The term "Shiranui" means a mirage and refers to the mystic flame that appears in the Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Sea.
